OEDILF – The Omnificent English Dictionary In Limerick Form

Yes, you guessed it. Limericks.

I rather enjoyed reading the entries on this. They are inventive and often funny and if you are uncertain of the word it is usually defined in the original boring manner below the limerick. Not always though, which is why there is Google.

Man, you are sick!

June 16, 2005

Well, posting has been a bit lighter than normal, mostly due to the fact that I got sick with Strep Throat. As a public service, I thought I’d give you all a pointer or two for dealing with this issue.

  1. If your throat is so sore that you can’t swallow without intense pain, go to the doctor. Don’t convince yourself that it is allergies or that you slept with your mouth open and dried it out. If it really hurts, go to the doctor.
  2. If your throat is acutely sore, grapefruit juice is not your friend. This should seem obvious but since grapefruit juice is one of my ‘comfort foods’, I didn’t think about it. Stingfest.
  3. Pay attention to your habits. I fixed myself a nice big bowl of chicken noodle soup; mmmm, chicken noodle, more comfort food. Then, as I like to do, I ground fresh pepper into it. When one of those peppercorn fragments stuck to my enlarged and hypersensitive tonsils, well, the ensuing dance and running about was quite humorous to the others watching the movie. Not so funny to me though.

Well, that should be sufficient food for thought for now. Leave a comment if you have other sage advice about getting sick.
